Conversation with your 21 year old self
I was at an amazing event recently for International Women's Day. Celebrating the empowerment of women.
I was also lucky enough to be sat next to 2 fabulous young women who were far smarter and mature than I was at that age.
The conversation flowed and eventually turned to "What advice would I have for a 21 year old?"
This was a really interesting question...because the world they live in is very different to the one I lived in at 21. So, I chose to speak about advice that I thought could help them, and would have helped my 21 year old self.
These included, but were not exclusive to.....
Failure is not the end of the world....reframe it as a way of learning. It is nothing to fear.
Save early - pensions and investments seem boring at that age....your older version will thank you.
Other people's opinions can feel so important - they are not. Walk your own path, those that matter will not judge - in fact they will be your cheer leaders and support group.
Friendships an be long and they can be short...that is ok.
Do not set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm. Someone else's happiness is not your responsibility.
Do the work on yourself now. Get rid of your limiting beliefs now and live a life free of them weighing you down.
What else would you add?
What advice do you wish you have received, or received and did not follow?
